Overview

Responsibilities

This person would be a member of the global IT organization; works with the CIO and global IT Infrastructure staff.

 

Primary Objectives:

  • The Network Engineer will have the primary responsibility for the global network architecture, performance, and stability. This includes WAN, LAN, wireless, and voice communications (including VoIP), and all supporting hardware and software.
  • Act as the primary trusted partner in implementing the data and voice network infrastructure to improve business operations and customer satisfaction.
  • Designs and establishes company-wide networking standards, develops and implements network enhancements and makes recommendations for improvements.  Leads implementation of approved network architecture and designs

Specific Accountabilities & Key Performance Indicators:

  • Ensure ALS’s global network is optimized and secure.
  • Design, implement, monitor, and report on network SLAs.
  • Notify management of any performance deficiencies, required changes, outages, and any other performance issues.

Position Duties and Scope:

  • Collect, consolidate and analyze business and technical requirements, including capabilities needed to enable desired performance for applications and telecommunication services.  Design and implement short- and long-term strategic plans to deliver the desired capabilities, utilizing cost-efficient options.
  • Provide network design (WAN & LAN), implementation and consulting for data, voice, and video communications infrastructure.
  • Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.  Design, deploy, manage, and ensure stability of the local/wide area network infrastructure technologies to provide high availability, fault tolerance, and scalability to effectively and efficiently support mission critical business systems

Proactively monitor, analyze and review environment performance and execute problem avoidance practices in order to maintain a high level of reliability and availability.

  • Act as the owner of problems through resolution. Analyze issue and take actions to resolve problems (including Root Cause Analysis and Problem Remediation).
  • Develop mitigation strategies and work with vendors for necessary network hardware replacement and/or refresh of aging equipment and to take advantage of new capabilities.
  • Provide timely reports.
  • Support the periodic review and audit of the network and work with IT security staff and partners to ensure the security of the network.
  • Work with local and regional technical staff to ensure adherence to standards, resolve issues, and align on solutions and deployment plans.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain relevant policies and procedures.  Including: assist in the creation and application of Change Management policies and protocols, including communication and documentation of all changes.
  • Manage network related projects.
  • Maintaining network documentation, which capture high level architecture as well as component details.

Qualifications

 

 Position Requirements: 

 

 

  • Minimum of ten years of hands-on experience and demonstrated competence in LAN/WAN (MPLS, Ethernet, SD-WAN) architecture, deployment, technologies, routing and switching platforms, and troubleshooting critical issues.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a lead role as a network engineer/architect in a global environment covering a network that spans multiple sites (ideally 50+) in multiple countries (ideally 30+), including design, deployment, and coordination.
  • Minimum of ten years of networking experience and proven hands-on knowledge and understanding of the following:
    • LAN/WAN architectures; Ethernet and SD-WAN highly desired.
    • Wi-Fi standards, xDSL.
    • VoIP protocols (Skype experience highly desired).
    • WAN traffic QOS, automatic/dynamic routing.
    • Multicast, Spanning-tree, Port Channels.
    • VLAN, Wi-Fi, wireless.
    • Bridging, Switching, Routing, Ethernet and Transport technologies and protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, IPv4, IPv6, OSPF, BGP).
    • PPP, DHCP, DNS, ICMP, ARP, NAT.
    • Router configuration.
    • Firewalls.
  • Ability to travel, up to 20% 
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or related experience.

Other Preferred Qualifications & Technologies: 

  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP or CCIP) 
  • CCNA certification or higher.
  • Zscaler
  • Pulse Secure VPN
