Overview

ALS provides a broad range of testing and analytical services to a wide variety of end markets and industries around the globe. We continue to remain at the forefront of the testing services industry, building an enviable reputation.

 

General Accountability:

The primary purpose of this position is to provide field services including sampling and observations for key ALS heavy industrial clients in the Metro Detroit area. This will be primarily in support of NPDES compliance for those client with a heavy emphasis on wastewater composite and grab sampling, but will also include sampling activities for waste characterization and disposal at the various sites. Additional duties will include sample pick-ups and bottle deliveries for clients between Lansing, MI and Toledo, OH, as well as any other activities as required by the clients in the area. For the right person this could evolve into a supervisory role for our client service activities in the region.

 

ALS Environmental

 

 

Responsibilities

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Perform environmental sampling and observations within a heavy industrial setting following established protocols and safety practices. 
  • Communicate all activities as directed in the facility to the onsite ALS Program Manager or designated client representative.
  • Assist in the preparation of sample bottle kits.
  • Document all sampling and observation activities as required by the client and regulating authority.
  • Properly complete all required log sheets or log books a required, including calibration of field measurement equipment.
  • Assist part/full time couriers with chain of custody, bottle preparation, and maps/directions for the completion of their assigned duties.
  • Prepare samples for shipping and delivery to ALS Sample Receiving.
  • Provide an accurate and completed chain of custody record of any sample in your possession.
  • Convey any ALS client requests or concerns to the Field Services Supervisor or appropriate Customer Service Representative.
  • Maintain routine vehicle maintenance documentation, including fluid checks and/or replacements; exterior and interior cleaning of company vehicle.
  • Comply with all ALS and Client safety requirements to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Familiarity with NPDES compliance regulations
  • Wastewater composite sampling experience including setup, operation and maintenance.
  • Current Driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Ability to operate company vehicle.
  • Knows the region and able to read maps.
  • Able to take ownership for meeting goals and objectives; willing to be accountable for own decisions, and willing to give 100%.  Look for new ways to accomplish objectives.
  • English verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with clients, staff and management.
  • Multi-tasked, organized, detail oriented, and possesses problem solving capabilities; will have good time management capabilities.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed; able to work independently.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS Degree in Environmental Science or related field
  • 2+ years working as an environmental field services technician
  • Prior customer service and/or client interface experience a plus

 Physical Demands:

  • Able to speak and hear clearly while communicating with co-workers, department team members, management, and clients.
  • Able to lift up to 35 lbs on a consistent basis (may request and use a dolly for situations requiring heavy loads).
  • Able to sit, drive, and walk for 100% of an 8 hour day.
  • Must be able to drive and get in and out of vehicle.
  • Dexterity in hands and fingers to operate vehicle, computer and other equipment.
  • Must have average vision and able to see to read reports and operate vehicle, office equipment.
