About the Position

We are seeking a full time Safety Coordinator who will be responsible for coordinating and supervising the quality assurance and quality control functions of the laboratory, as well as the safety plan. This individual will work with Laboratory Manager and the North America Region Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Manager to implement the corporate safety programs and make necessary updates to maintain compliance all safety regulations in the laboratory, where applicable. To perform this job successfully, an individual must perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate implementation of corporate safety program
  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) requirements from relevant regulatory bodies including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Ohio Department of Health, and other State, County, and Local governing bodies.
  • Manage hazardous waste program
  • Provide HSE training and lead the Safety Committee
  • Conduct Risk Assessments and Audits
  • Assist in researching HSE regulations, Standards and Codes to determine applicability to lab operations
  • Assist in writing, editing and validating Standard Operating Procedures
  • Advise on provisions to minimize safety risks
  • Direct accident investigation procedures
  • Keep records on safety related incidents and propose corrective actions
  • Collaborate with managers to monitor compliance and identify safety issues
  • Prepare reports to official regulatory bodies, as required
  • Other duties include running samples and providing support to the lab.
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned from time to time, as required

Qualifications

Educations/Certifications/Experience Required:

Minimum Requirements:

  • A BS or BA degree in Science preferred
  • Proven experience as a safety coordinator or similar
  • Knowledge of OSHA guidelines and practices
  • Knowledge of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act
  • Previous experience in a laboratory environment
  • Excellent communication and advisory skills
  • Proficient in MSOffice

Physical Demands:

  • Able to speak and hear clearly while communicating with staff, management, and clients;
  • Able to sit, and/or stand for 100% of an 8 hour day;
  • Dexterity in hands and fingers to operate computer and other equipment;
  • Must have average vision and able to see to read reports and operate equipment.
