Overview

Responsibilities

General Accountability: Independently prepare geological samples for analysis and carry out routine analysis by operating automated samplers and micro-balance. You will use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality, and adhere to safe laboratory practices by working in accordance with the ALS Health and Safety Program.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Use Web view to track samples and make sample batch;
  • Operate under supervision and perform basic maintenance on AA, ICP with autosampler and/or fire assay gravimetric and microwave digestion instruments;
  • Prepare sample dilutions, instrument operating solutions and calibration standards where applicable;
  • Ensure all prepared and available samples are accounted for in the lab;
  • Prioritize workloads according to daily stats and turnaround commitments;
  • Maintain and organize inventory of calibration standards, production logs and equipment records;
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following all safety requirements within the Safety Manual and communicate all safety concerns to the Supervisor or Manager;
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Manager.

 

Qualifications

 

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

 

  • Basic analytical and mechanical skills required;
  • Organized and highly motivated individual;
  • Detail oriented individual;
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team;
  • Ability to effectively handle a high volume of work and time critical issues;
  • Basic English communication skills (written and verbal);Basic computer proficiency.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent required with Chemistry preferred;
  • Minimum of 1 year laboratory work experience in analytical chemistry, instrumentation or a related field preferred.

 

Physical Demands:

 

 

  • Ability to stand and/or sit for up to 7.5 hours per day;
  • Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks;
  • Ability to lift up to 5 litre containers (10 lbs).
