About the role:

 

The LC-MS/MS Technical Lead will spearhead the development of a new LC-MS/MS service stream within an established food laboratory environment. This role involves designing and validating analytical methods, optimizing workflows, ensuring compliance with quality systems, and acting as the technical authority for client projects. The successful candidate will work independently at first, with responsibility for shaping the service offering and supporting future team growth.

 

The LC-MS/MS Technical Lead has the following duties:

 

Service Development

  • Establish LC-MS/MS as a new service stream within the existing lab framework.
  • Define technical scope, workflows, and performance standards for the service.
  • Collaborate with commercial teams to align technical capabilities with client needs.

 

Method Development & Validation

  • Design, develop, and validate LC-MS/MS methods for complex matrices.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 17025, GMP, and client-specific requirements.
  • Prepare method validation reports and maintain full traceability.

 

Technical Leadership

  • Act as the subject matter expert for LC-MS/MS within the business.
  • Provide technical advice to internal teams and clients on testing suitability and regulatory requirements.
  • Support troubleshooting and continuous improvement initiatives.

 

Quality & Compliance

  • Operate within established quality systems and ensure adherence to SOPs.
  • Lead investigations of non-conformances and OOS results.
  • Implement CAPA and maintain data integrity.

 

Data Management

  • Utilize LIMS for data entry, approval, and reporting.
  • Configure test codes and suites for LC-MS/MS workflows.

 

Client Engagement

  • Communicate technical results and interpretations to clients.
  • Contribute to proposals and technical discussions for new projects.

 

Future Team Development

  • Identify future staffing needs as the service grows.
  • Develop training materials and mentor new hires when the team expands.

 

About you:

  • Experience with food and food product analysis preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 17025, and data integrity principles.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and maintenance of LC-MS/MS systems.
  • Ability to design and implement new analytical workflows.
  • Laboratory experience in food testing.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Highly self-motivated and proactive.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or related discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on LC-MS/MS experience, including method development and validation.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, bend, push, pull, stoop and crouch up to 80% of the time while performing the duties of this position.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds loads, assistance available
  • Travel when required.
