About the role:

 

As the Organics Manager – USA, you will be responsible for overseeing staff and managing projects within the ALS Environmental Division laboratory in Kelso, WA. This role focuses on providing strong leadership and direction to the team while ensuring production goals are met for turnaround time, quality, and overall output.

Responsibilities

About you:

  • Daily management and oversight of ALS' Organics staff and workflows.
  • Select, train, develop, motivate, and evaluate a competent workforce.
  • Provides leadership and direction to staff in areas of technical development, technical innovation and quality.
  • Manage assignment of tasks and responsibilities to staff including auditing, reviews and evaluations; ensure a balanced workflow through monitoring of data and reports and reallocating resources as necessary to meet production goals.
  • Communicate workload status to Operations Manager as requested.
  • Ensure that the staff meet all production goals for turnaround times, quality, and output.
  • Review records, reports, and other documentation as needed for the divisions.
  • Monitors existing methods and continuously works to make improvements that will result in improved performance and efficiency.
  • Works together with the Quality Manager to make decisions regarding approaches to systems and protocols that pertain to analytical method development, documentation, validation, acceptance, performance measurement, and other related topics.
  • Ensure laboratories use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and while ensuring analytical quality.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinates and manages individual high profile or priority development projects.
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures.
  • May be required to perform other duties or take on additional responsibilities as required by Senior Management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in science preferred;
  • 5 to 10 years’ laboratory experience or comparable experience/training.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a leadership position.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks.
  • Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required.
  • Ability to stand for a full shift.
  • Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes sedentary responsibilities.
  • You may be exposed to unpleasant odors.
  • Ability to travel to laboratory locations, if needed.
  • Availability will require day and afternoon work including potential weekends.
